Meeting Critiques

Each month songs of members are critiqued at the 1st Thursday workshop. Winners each month are published in Songwriters Notes. Members only may enter up to 2 songs per month (or more if time allows) by going to this link https://dallassongwriters.org/song-critique/ to enter the lyric and audio file or you may upload the lyric and perform the song live at the meeting. Time is limited to the review of 8 songs per meeting on a first come basis. (If we run out of time, the songs will be moved to next meeting). Members will have until the end of November to rewrite and record their song before it is sent to the judge. At the end of each year, the songs are judged by industry pros and the Song of the Year is awarded to the songwriter whose song garnered the most points from the judges. Also, The Vern Dailey Songwriter of the Year Award goes to songwriter who has the most songs with the highest points in the top ten. Winners are announced at the Virtual Awards Program in February which include performances by the finalists.

SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR
Craig Langford
Born into a musical family, he grew up with two grand pianos in his living room. He was the Texas All State French horn player but decided to pass on scholarship offers at graduation… and took a left turn to joined the Navy, who, in an incredible stoke of genius, stationed him in Hawaii for his entire tour of duty. He played music all over Honolulu until his honorable discharge, and he returned to Texas to begin playing professionally. He subsequently moved his family to Nashville, where he toured with artists like Trisha Yearwood/Garth Brooks.
While he still loves playing in bands, songwriting has grown to be a large part of his musical passion. He enjoys boating, working on his old truck, doing string instrument repair, and spending time with his four grown children and three grandchildren! Here is our Songwriter of the Year, Craig Langford.

Finalists - https://dallassongwriters.org/song-year-finalist-announced/

We had a total of 52 songs submitted this year to MR. TROLL, our BEST SONGS OF THE MEETING judge, and after a herculean effort of song listening and critiquing, he wheedled it down to the final top ten, and here they are, in alphabetical order. The top 3 winners will be announced at the awards banquet at Hermann Hall on December 8th, AND we will name the SONG OF THE YEAR and SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR. There will be performances by some of the finalist below, as well as, the Annaul Song Contest Semi-finalists, so if you want to be there for the announcements, get your tickets early – it’s gonna be a ball and there’s gonna be a crowd.  https://dallassongwriters.org/shop/dsa-song-contest-awardschristmas-party/
